This Cruise Tells You Why An Unusual Excursion with the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy In Creative Partnership with the
Friends of Lilydale Regional Park and
Science Museum of Minnesota
Before human beings appeared on the scene,
wondrous prehistoric creatures and fascinating
vegetative forms populated, and no doubt enjoyed, Lilydale Regional Park. Fortunately, hints of these early life forms and their landscape abound along
the Mississippi.
On October 3rd, 2010, a delightful Mississippi River cruise, on the Jonathan Padelford riverboat will reveal the fascinating landscape of prehistoric Saint Paul
and environs. Our colorful fall cruise which launches from Harriet Island in Saint Paul, features a
presentation by Dick Oehlenschlager, Collections Manager for Biology for the Science Museum of Minnesota, on the trilobites, dinosaurs, and other amazing life forms that once called Saint Paul
home.
As we transverse the river, Dick will also
point out landforms that hearken to the latest glacial
period and before.
What will be a fun outing for you, family and friends
will also be good for the community.
Proceeds from the cruise will support the work of the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy in restoring Lilydale Regional Park to a more natural and pristine state,
as well as Conservancy plans for future park and
recreation ventures. While we do not anticipate
that our Lilydale efforts will result in the reappearance of trilobites and their ancient companions, we do expect to offer current species of native plants and creatures a chance to flourish.
Science Museum assistance with this year’s tour—like Audubon Minnesota’s help last year—attests to
the value of creative opportunities for partnerships
between community organizations who share
an interest in a rich and fulfilling future for our
community and world.
